SCAU is so very fortunate to have some fantastic leaders and instructors. We tried to fit all of them on the banner of this page but simply couldn't fit them on. We have a wide range in age and experience but there is a common factor - we all volunteer because we love working with the fantastic children in our unit. Whilst we do try and keep our structure fairly informal, we have over time identified the need to clarify both leader responsibilities and also the level of commitment that leaders are able to make. With that in mind, we have tried to provide the categories of leaders we have - some individuals will be in more than one category, and for that reason, we have not listed the leaders by name.
Leaders - Grey Tops
These leaders are over 25 years old - some much are well over 25 !! These will routinely attend SCAU most Friday evenings and will often be those that are responsible for the day-to-day running of Sections. Whilst some of the more senior leaders are found within this section by virtue of experience, in general, leaders with grey tops have no more authority than the blue-topped Ursa leaders.
URSA Leaders - Blue Tops
These are the younger leaders of the Unit. Often, these will be members of Orion that have reached 18 and have been young leaders at Hydra or Lynx. They will also include those at University who help out when they are back home and often assist on camps.
Young Leaders - Red Tops
These fall into two categories. Those that are within SCAU as a member (in Orion) and those that are new to the organisation, not within any section but helping out at Hydra and/or Lynx. These will be wearing the bright red tops.
